Using a Blackberry to access SNE? It appears that the Tapatalk beta app has been "decomissioned" for the moment, but I may have an even better solution.

Point your Blackberry to http://www.BerryBlab.com and download their software. Once it's installed use the add forum feature and type in the URL exactly as shown below:

Well, summer has been and still is fun, but I'm starting to look ahead at getting back in the radio room more, which means updates to Scan New England. Here's what I have in store.

Navigation Bar Tab Changes

I've been working on making some navigation bar changes for ease of access to various parts of SNE. Hopefully the current format is a step in the right direction. The Forums tab is now a drop down menu with several selections including the link to the forums themselves. The drop down add-on I installed works quite nicely, but of course I'm limited as to the amount of drop downs that can be placed on the Navbar itself.

Suggestions for links to commonly and/or heavily used parts of SNE that aren't now included are welcome. Thanks.

With the impending shutdown of the New England Scanner Feeds Teamspeak Server, I will be introducing a new interactive feature in the near future, known as the Scan New England Special Event Feed.

SNE members that would be interested in having the ability to stream special events and/or breaking emergency events will be able to apply to do so via a forthcoming "Incident Broadcaster Application" form. Once approved you will be provided with detailed instructions for the setup of your feed.

With the permission of Peter/K1PGV we will be utilizing his ScannerCast software. The instructions will be step by step with screenshots; the setup will be extremely simple. This will allow listeners to connect with "every

NESF Teamspeak November Shutdown

On 11/19/10 our subscription to commercial teamspeak server space as provided by Pure-Voice is due to expire. It is my intention to shut down NESF Teamspeak at that time.

Usage numbers are down considerably. I view this as a combination of Radio Reference's excellent scanner feed system combined with our switch to Teamspeak 3. There was an immediate reduction in use upon the move to 3; I think despite our reasonably easy instructions it scared some users away.

I have already introduced an IRC based chat system at SNE; it is accessible from the navigation bar. I will also be adding an icecast server to my feed server which will allow on the fly streaming of breaking incidents. Those of you that wish to have access to

Wiki Integration Requires Name Change IF...

The Scan New England Wiki has been re-integrated into vBulletin. I discovered an error that requires a name change for anyone who has anything other than an alphanumeric character in their username. Notice that my username has changed from Scott/SNE Webmaster to Scott SNE Webmaster. Any characters other than the following must be removed from your username.

A thru Z
a thru Z
1 thru 0

In other words, if you have a /, a \, a -, a &, etc. it will not work. You will not even be able to VIEW the Wiki.

Website Style Changes

As you may have noticed, I have made some changes to the way the website will appear. They're minor. The site is now at a fixed width of 950 pixels. The header has also been modified and is flash based. This will be tweaked as time goes by. Any modern browser should be able to handle it. It's scrolling pretty basic stuff right now. I'm also going to try to clean up the header links (Log Out, Settings, My Profile, Etc.).

If there are any display problems please let me know. Using the latest Firefox it works dandy.

New England Frequency Database Updated

I've finally compiled a new NE Frequency Database. Current and proposed FCC licenses between 30-960 MHz for the six state New England region may be searched. This is data compiled from the FCC General Menu Reports website, exported into Microsoft Excel, converted to a tab delimited text file, and uploaded to my database. It offers a simple and easy to use interface for search and display of FCC records.
