    Huntress & Slam

10:20AM - 228.9, Huntress wkg Slam 31 & 32 tracking targets, unknown location, unknown if an exercise or real world. Both Huntress and the fighters coming in good here, not a great signal but readable.

10:55AM - 228.9 Huntress and Slam 31 & 01, Slams tracked TOI, target contacted Bradley approach and advised wanting to go to Pittsfield? Airport, Huntress advised that the exercise was completed. The fighters are enroute to the Yankee/Laser MOA to complete their work.

  3. Active Air Scramble Exercise

    Players:

    SLAM 31 & SLAM 32
    SLAM 01 & SLAM 02
    CAPFLIGHT 1931 [N373CP] = TOI 1
    CAPFLIGHT 1930 [N586CP] = TOI 2

    Freqs:

    228.900 Huntress

    264.850 SLAM 31 & 32 post exercise
123.100 Simulated Guard comms btwn SLAMs & TOIs
    141.575FM CAPFLT comms
354.100 ZBW Discrete/Amber/Special Activity [take your pick on description]
    338.200 ZBW
    307.900 ZBW
269.475 ZBW [new freq replacing 381.400 apparently]
    281.500 BDL A/D
    251.100 BAF TWR

    First part:

SLAM 31 & 32 vectored to holding area [called 'Albany CAP'] and performed a couple of interecepts on TOI violating simulated TFR

    Second part:

SLAM 01 & 02 vectored directly to TOI for intercept, then heading to Y/L for AR & work as Kenny noted.

The CAP Flt guys should get an Oscar for their performances. They simulated either ingnorant or indifferent pilots [with regards to TFRs] and their comments on sim guard were priceless. Added some real-world flavor.

Same exercise again this morning, same players and freqs. Just caught the end of it though. Huntress, Slam's and a CAP unit acting as the TOI.

  6. Only thing I can add is that Friday's exercise wasn't as successful as Thursday. Weather had an impact, plus radar and radio malfunctions with one of the SLAM pairs. Comment was made that it was a perfect example of how everything can go wrong.

    SLAM 01 & 02 went to W105 afterwards and met up with a MAINE 85 flight of three [85, 86 & 87] KC-135s.

Another interesting point was the reference to a "PAWS" CAP [that's what it sounded like] by SLAM 33 & 34. They were in the general area of Keene, NH, so I'm not sure to what it related.

Is 228.900am the Scramble freq for the Barnes F-15s? It was used for the 102th FW when the were active at Otis AFB.

Yes, see above ..... it is the freq used by the 104FW to contact Huntress during ASA exercises, and probably also when they stand-up for the mission in 2010.
