Win500 will work with Windows 7 according to the website

Not sure if the first part is asking about Windows XP or a HP computer but it would work with either.

i was wondering if there is any software for windows hp and windows 7??? i went to radio shack and no luck, the sales rep said that it hasn't been invented yet for windows 7.

There is always Butel ARC

ok i got the usb cable from radioshack... i got it hooked up i hit the upload button and nothing happens. am i supposed to hit the download button??? i got eveything i needed programmed in te software.
You never said what software you were using, so it's kinda hard to answer the question. Did you obtain the correct USB cable from RS as shown at http://www.starrsoft.com ? The biggest mistake is to ask a Radio Shack employee anything about scanners (there are a FEW exceptions). Did you install the software drivers for the USB cable if it's the correct one? Is the USB cable showing up as a COM port? Is the software configured to the correct COM port and baud rate?

ooops sorry i'm using butel. yes it is its reading comport 3 i also have windows hp and windows 7 for the computer program. thanks for your help i have no idea what i'm doing lol
Did you confirm that it's the correct cable? If it is and you're as far along as you indicate it should not be a big deal at this point. Are you able to remote control the scanner, i.e. see its display via the software? The first thing that needs to be eliminated from the problem is the connectivity between the software and the scanner.

i bought the usb cable it has an orange rectangular box with a wire for the computer and another for the scanner. do i need the cd that came w/ the wire??? i looked on the cd and it had these pc software titles. windows 98, windows 2000, windows xp, windows me, and windows vista. i don't know if this has anything to do with the wire? thany you for your patience scott i'm only a novice when it comes to this stuff i'm still learning, thanks again
Go to http://starrsoft.com/software/win500...p#requirements . Then check the Radio Shack part number you have against what is listed there. Then we'll see if you have the right cable before we continue.

i do have the correct usb cable i checked and double checked the cat. number it says 20-047
OK, to go back to where we were before, using your software are you able to remote control the scanner, or simpler yet see the display via software when you connect to it?

the CD has the driver for the cable to run on your computer. Plug the cable into a USB port. Hopefully you will get a message that it is seen but you need a driver for it to work. Insert the CD and choose the option that allows you to pick where the file is. Enter the drive letter where the disk is (by using the browse option). After the driver is installed, plug the other end of the cable into the scanner port (read the manual if you don't know where it goes). Open your software. You need to tell the program which Com Port your cable is on. Try using the scan feature to establish contact between the computer and the radio first. once that works, read the scanner and SAVE a copy of that file. (keep it until you are confident you arent going to erase anything you have in the radio)
