Line out 'POP' or 'Thump' Modifications
One of the more significant issues with the BC898t is the loud 'thump' noise present on the line out audio. This pop noise is heard each and every time the squelch opens or closes on a channel with the 'LINE' option activated. Listening to recordings filled with 'pop' and 'thud' noises can be quite annoying to say the least.
There are two solutions to this problem (that I am aware of). The first involves physical modification to the scanner. This method is described in the following PDF.
Unfortunately the above method involves tiny surface mount components and of course voids any form of warranty. For those who dont want to crack their scanner open an alternative solution is provided below.
This is an external circuit that can be connected to the scanner remote port and external speaker jack to provide a similar 'Line out' function. Additionally, it adds a squelch operated LCD backlignt.
