Donations

The New England Scanner Feeds Teamspeak Server is now hosted on a remote server, which offers exceptional bandwidth and robust performance to properly handle the growing number of scanner feeds that we provide and a growing number of users. If you are a regular user of the server, please consider a small donation, which helps to keep the server running at this remote location. Our Teamspeak server is hosted by the fine folks at Pure Voice Communications Inc.. Current monthly charges are approximately $17.10. Thanks to the many generous donations to this site along with future donations, we should be able to keep this server running indefinitely, and increase its capacity if need be. If you would like to donate, please go to this website's donation page to do so. Thanks very much.

Logging onto the Teamspeak Server

There are two ways to log onto the New England Scanner Feeds Teamspeak Server. The easiest way is via the Scan Cape Cod/Scan Massachusetts website. The Teamspeak Client must be installed on your computer to do this. The other method is to log in directly using the Teamspeak Client software. Both methods are described below.

Logging On Through The Website

  • Surf to The Teamspeak Stats and Login Page. Instructions to log in are at the top of this page but we'll continue here to be redundant.
  • Scroll down the screen until you see the "Available Channels - Click Channel to Log On!" section.
  • Click on any of the channel names.
  • A button that reads "Join Channel" will appear in the right pane of the "Available Channels" window.
  • If you click on it, a logon dialog box will pop up.
  • If you are not a registered user, please simply enter a nickname and click the CONNECT button.
  • If you are a registered user, click on the "Registered" button, enter a nickname, your Login Name, and Password and click CONNECT.
  • You may also click in the Remember Me box. This will save your nickname, and if you're a registered user, your username and password. The next time you log on you will do so automatically.
  • In either case your Teamspeak Client software will automatically run and you'll be logged directly into the channel of your choice.

This page is setup to automatically refresh every 60 seconds. If you do not get all of the above information in and connect within a 60 second span, you'll have to start over. Sorry, but this is a limitation of the script that reads the info from the server.

Logging On Directly With The Teamspeak Client Software

  • From the top menu, select "Connection" then "Connect"
  • Right-click where is says "Servers" and select "Add Server"
  • Enter the "Server Address": nescannerfeeds.no-ip.org:8005
  • Create a "Nickname" to identify yourself. Please try to avoid logging in as "Guest". Anyone logging in and using a nickname with Scan Cape Cod, Scan Massachusetts, or any combination thereof without prior permission will be booted from the server if observed. Repeat offenders will be subsequently banned. IP addresses are regularly recorded.
  • Select the "Anonymous" radio box below your nickname
  • Click connect at the bottom and read the instructions once connected to the server

Muting Microphone for listening

Although only registered users can provide a feed, you can mute your microphone just to be safe. The simplest way is to put your mic on "Push To Talk". With this activated, your mic will only be active when you press a certain key on your keyboard. You can also chose to mute your microphone each time you log onto the server.

  • Selecting "Push To Talk": From the menu bar at the top of the program window select "Settings" then "Sound Input/Output Settings". A box will open and you will be able to select the radio box labeled "Push To Talk". Click the box labeled "Set" to set the key that will active your mic. To be safe, make this a seldom used key.
  • Muting your Microphone: From the menu bar at the top of the program window select "Self" then "Mute Microphone". Your icon will then change to a picture of a mic with a line through it.

Text / Chat Feature

To use the text / chat feature, you use the right-click button on your mouse and selecting one of the options. There are 3 options when sending text to other listeners:

  • Send Text Message To All: This sends your message to ALL listeners on the server
  • Send Text Message To Channel: This sends your message to the listeners in the "Channel", depending upon which "Channel" you right-clicked
  • Send Text Message To Player: This sends your message ONLY to the listener you right-click on

Away Feature

  • If you wish to stay logged on and are not at the computer, you can make your status as "away"
  • From the top menu select "Self" and then "Away"
  • Your icon will then show the figure of a person with an X through it
  • PLEASE NOTE: This will also mute your audio therefore anyone providing a feed SHOULD NOT do this

Desktop / Startup Icon Trick

Here's how to create a Teamspeak Icon that will allow you to connect to the New England Scanner Feeds Teamspeak Server (or any server for that matter) and immediately be logged into the channel you want or need to be in. This icon can then be placed in the startup folder and is ideal for feed providers that may have an inadvertent reboot of their computer. This tutorial is built with the premise that you are using Windows XP. Other versions of Windows will be similar but may have different wording.

Creating The Icon

  • 1. RIGHT click on your desktop (main screen).
  • 2. A menu will appear. Hover over "New" and another menu will appear.
  • 3. Select "Shortcut".
  • 4. A dialog box will appear. In the "Type the location of the item" box, type the following, substituting your Nick Name, Login Name, password, channel, and if necessary subchannel in the appropriate fields:

teamspeak://nescannerfeeds.no-ip.org:8005/?nickname=Your Nickname?loginname=Your Login Name?password=your password?channel=your channel?

Please note that this must be EXACT, and yes, the question marks are part of it...a crucial part!

  • 5. Click the Next button.
  • 6. Type a name for the shortcut in the box, i.e. "Teamspeak" or "NE Scanner Feeds", whatever you want to call it.
  • 7. Click the Finish button.
  • 8. The icon should appear on your desktop with the Teamspeak logo.
  • 9. Before you try to use it, right click on the Icon and select "Properties" from the drop down menu.
  • 10. Check the link you typed. Often when there are spaces in the entered info (nickname, channel name, etc.) the information after that is eliminated during the initial process. If it has been cut off, simply type the remainder of the info in. When done, click the Apply button, and then click the OK button. This time it will take. Confounded Windows!
  • 11. Double click to test. If you did it right you should be able to log in and land right in your channel. Neat, eh? If it didn't work go back and carefully look at the string of data you typed. Something is wrong somewhere, guaranteed. It WILL work.
  • 12. Now that you've successfully got this far we'll put it in your startup folder so it runs when the computer boots/reboots.

Adding The Icon To Your Startup Folder

  • 1. RIGHT click on your Windows START button (normally in the lower left of your screen).
  • 2. Click on the "Open" selection on the drop down menu that appears.
  • 3. Double click the "Programs" selection.
  • 4. Double click "Startup".
  • 5. Go back to your desktop.
  • 6. RIGHT click on the newly created icon, and drag it into the Startup window.
  • 7. Release the mouse button, and click on "Create Shortcuts Here".
  • 8. You're done! When the computer reboots, Teamspeak will automatically start and run in your channel.

The above icon can also be used by unregistered users. Just simply leave out the loginname and password information.

Run Multiple Clients

There are 2 methods to running 2 teamspeak clients on one computer. The first one can be used on Windows 98/XP and the second can only be used on Windows XP. Using 2 clients is ideal if you provide a feed and want to listen to another. In order to have more than one feed, additional sound cards are needed.

Method 1: Install Previous Version (This is not supported by teamspeak)

  • Download this (and only this) previous version of Teamspeak here
  • Install this version to a DIFFERENT folder than your current version, ie. C:\Program_Files\Teamspeak
  • Re-enter the server and login information
  • Voila! 2 Teamspeak clients running on your desktop at the same time!

Method 2: Patch Executable with hex editor

with null bytes

  • Save file, and run as many clients as you like
  • note: you may have to unpack the exe with upx

if it's compressed "upx -d TeamSpeak.exe"

Method 3: Create Additional XP Users

  • In the "Control Panel" go to "users" and create a new user
  • Log on with the new user by pressing the Windows button and " L " simultaneously. You can also switch users via the Start Menu and selecting "Log Off"
  • Locate and run your current installation of Teamspeak
  • Run the client and re-enter the server and login information
  • Voila! 2 Teamspeak clients running (with different users) at the same time!

Program Defaults

  • In order for clickable links / shortcuts to work with your current version of Teamspeak (and not the previous), you need to re-download the latest version here
  • Now, you must re-install it to the SAME folder that your LATEST version of Teamspeak was already installed to, ie. C:\Program_Files\Teamspeak2_RC2. This is the version you originally had prior to beginning this trick.
