Franklin County Sheriff Department
More than 60% of the Sheriff’s Office total workforce is assigned to the Custodial Services Division, which is responsible for the care, custody, and transportation of the nearly 200 inmates and detainees housed at the Jail and House of Correction. The Custodial Services Division is responsible for managing both a pre-trial (individuals awaiting trial on charges) and a sentenced population. Within these broader classifications, inmates are further classified consistent with their gender (males and females), special needs (such as protective custody and administrative segregation), and security threat level (maximum security and minimum security).
An average of 1,300 inmate admissions and discharges are processed annually, and more than 3,700 inmates are transported to and from courts and prison facilities throughout the state. The Custodial Services Division functions 24 hours per day, 365 days per year and at full compliment consisting of five Shift Captains, seven Lieutenants/Sergeants, and 49 Correction Officers.
